Mmm this vignette paints the speed limitations of PowerPoint in a viscerally clear picture. Anyone who has dealt with the need to disseminate information widely and quickly via PowerPoint has felt the tension between the clock and the formatting approvals process. Another clear and concise post. Looking back, what system or process would you recommend for disseminating that ISR data? Aside from a more simple template, is there a program or system you would’ve preferred this information be sent out over? What about your front line trace coordination example: is there a coalition-wide system that existed that this info could’ve been displayed on more automatically than having to compile a SITREP that you would’ve recommended?

Austin, sorry for the late reply. I was travelling yesterday. To answer your questions:

1) ISR managers never really gave up on miRC (or at least they hadn't when I left Iraq in 2020), though some had moved to using chatsurfer (which is just an HTML view of mIRC chats that you can configure). Some of the problem is ops sections seemed to be hit and miss on mIRC< so you didn't have a great ops - intel fusion (see upcoming post 2.6 for more).

2) For front-line-traces Palantir is a very popular way to track it right now in places like UKR. You can have just about any COP tool do it, but the trick is sharing the info. This is also why I always gravitate to good sharing formats. I'll talk more about this in 2.11 but KMZs transfer well between stovepipes.

3) I'll probably have to write a whole post just on what SITREPs aren't vs what they could be.

Keep the feedback coming.
